~ The Sabbath Table ~
A Celebration of Jewish Food & Drink
The Sabbath Dinner is a central focus of Jewish life. A time for people to pause their busy lives, to rest and connect with family, friends and members of the community. Inspired by Field & Green Chef, Laura Greenfield’s childhood family dinners on a Friday night and other Jewish festivals, this Food Gathering will be a taste of Jewish culture and its diverse culinary styles.
Jewish food and drink is not defined by a geographical base but rather driven by the Jewish people who have for millennia been scattered across the globe through migration and exile taking with them their culinary and cultural traditions, adapting them to suit the local foods and climate.
Ashkenazi and Sephardi are the two main cultural branches of Jewish people and at this Supper Club you’ll enjoy shared plates inspired by each cultural style.
- Ashkenazi (meaning ‘Germany’ in Hebrew) is from Central and Eastern Europe with a ‘cold’ cooking style, such as chicken fat, onions, garlic, cabbage and salted herring.
- Sephardi (meaning ‘Spain’ in Hebrew) is from the Mediterranean, Middle East and Asia and has a ‘warm’ style with aubergines, peppers, saltwater fish and olive oil.
Here’s a short message from Chef, Laura Greenfield about the Food Gathering.
